The 7 Deadly Sins of Reading

Booktuber Malyza came up with the 7 Deadly Sins of Reading Tag. I used to vlog but haven’t in a long time, and since I don’t really feel like doing one right now but thought this tag was fun, I decided to do a blog post instead. You can see Malyza’s video here and join in if you want!

~ GREED ~ What is your most expensive book? What is your most inexpensive book?
My most expensive book is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It cost me…*gulps*…$43 + tax. Most of my Harry Potter books were insanely expensive, and while I wouldn’t pay that much for books now (I’m seriously frugal when it comes to books, but this was ten years ago, I was a teenager, and come on it's HARRY POTTER), I had no qualms paying that for my favourite series. I’ve definitely gotten my money’s worth!

My most inexpensive book…well, I shop a lot in the bargain section at Chapters, and I also love book sales and used books, plus my library’s bookstore, so I get A LOT of really inexpensive books. My most recent inexpensive find was Rebel Angels by Libba Bray, which was a beautiful hardcover in great condition for $1!

~ WRATH ~ What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?
Janet Evanovich. I loved her Stephanie Plum series at first - they were hilarious, sexy, and each had a great mystery. BUT the last several books have all been the same and they’re getting so old and tired and annoying...but I can’t stop reading them. There are currently 19 in the series, with the 20th coming out in November, and I’ve read every single one, even though I keep saying I’m going to stop. I read them out of loyalty, even though I know they’re basically the exact same book with one or two new elements. *sigh* I wish she'd either come up with something new or end the series altogether. It's beyond time.

~ GLUTTONY ~ What book have you deliciously devoured over and over with no shame whatsoever?
The Harry Potter series. I’ve read all the books three or four times (except for book 7 which I’ve only read once). I’ve actually been thinking of doing another reread, I just need to find the time.

~ SLOTH ~ What book have you neglected reading due to laziness?
Well, it’s not laziness, but I’ve neglected reading several books because they’re so huge and I’m a slow reader. A few examples: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, The Diviners by Libba Bray, Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor. I want to read them all really badly but I keep putting them off because I know they'll take me forever and I don't want to get behind in my reading.

~ PRIDE ~ What book do you talk about most in order to sound like an intellectual reader?
I honestly don’t care about sounding like an intellectual reader. I’m not one of those people who feel the need to show off or impress anyone. I read for pleasure, not to impress people. ;-)

~ LUST ~ What attributes do you find most attractive in male or female characters?
I love book boys who are smart, funny, chivalrous (hey I’m an old fashioned girl), and have that special quality, whatever it may be, that just makes me swoon, whether it’s the things he says, the way he acts, the way he treats a girl, whatever. Oh, and a sexy accent doesn't hurt.

~ ENVY ~ What books would you most like to receive as a gift?
I’d LOVE to have the new Harry Potter box set. Even though I have a beautiful set of hardcovers that I paid a fortune for, the box set is just so pretty! It feels almost like a must have for any Harry Potter fan. I’d also love to get a big ol’ box of ARCs with books like Into the Still Blue by Veronica Rossi, Lady Thief by AC Gaughen, and Unhinged by AG Howard, just to name a few.

Want to confess some of your reading sins to me? ;-)
If you do this tag, whether on your blog or YouTube, be sure to link me up so I can come check it out!

  1. LUST ~ What attributes do you find most attractive in male or female characters?

Boy characters who spout geeky information, especially if Scott Westerfeld writes them. Also, any Meg Cabot guy in her YA works.

WRATH ~ What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?

George R.R. Martin. I love his writing, I admit, but he really YANKS you through A Song of Ice and Fire and doesn't want you to come along for the ride. He wants your brain to participate.

  2. I love this meme. It's so fun.

You should make the time for Outlander. It's well worth it for the romance.

  3. Wonderful post. I was lucky when it came to the Harry Potter series, my mother bought most of them. She is very generous that way. :-)

  4. I love this! I'm definitely working on a post for my blog. :) I'm with you on the big reads ... I wouldn't say I'm lazy, but some books are just too big! And I want the Harry Potter boxset, too ... it's just toooooo expensive!

    Thanks for sharing this!

  5. Was HP & the OOTP really that expensive?! I got insanely luck with that one, and got a copy of the hardcover for $2 (like-new condition) only a couple days after its release (I found it at a little used goods store, and I don't think the little old ladies running the shop were aware of what Harry Potter was). I was in middle school at the time, I think.

This was a great idea! Thanks for bringing this tag over from the BookTubers - I decided to make a post of my own, also. You can check it out here:
