Stacking the Shelves (The Owl Edition) + What's Happening August 31st

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews

Happy weekend, book lovers!

It's been a slow book week for me, but for once I didn't mind. I didn't get a single thing in the mail this week (except my credit card bill, which...really...that's no fun at all and actually kinda made me want to cry), but I got a couple children's books as gifts, and I only one-clicked ONE book, which was on sale, so YAY!

GIFTS:
My friend Maureen volunteers at our local library's bookstore and she knows I love and collect all things owly, so she bought these two books for me.
 Animal Lives: The Barn Owl by Sally Tagholm {GoodReads}
Dewey Doo-It Helps Owlie Fly Again by Brahm Wenger & Alan Green {GoodReads}

BOUGHT:
Escaping Me by Elizabeth Lee {GoodReads}

I got a little notepad of owl paper with a cute magnetized case, an owl ring, and an owl hangy thing that I'm going to hang necklaces on. Best part? I spent less than $10 for all three things.

Just One Day by Gayle Forman {GoodReads}
The Truth About You & Me by Amanda Grace {GoodReads}

The Angel Stone by Juliet Dark {GoodReads}
Susan Mallery’s Fool’s Gold Cookbook: A Love Story Told Through 150 Recipes {GoodReads}

  • I participated in the For The Love of Books Giveaway Hop, which is supposed to end today but I've extended it a day longer so people stopping by for Stacking the Shelves can enter if they want. I have a choice of 12 ebooks by indie authors, so be sure to check it out and enter!
  • I reviewed To Be Perfectly Honest by Sonya Sones, which was the first book in verse I'd ever read. I loved it, and gave it 4 stars.
  • I started a new feature this week called More Than Books. It'll be a semi-regular thing where I talk about non-bookish things going on in my life. This week I talked about reconnecting with my childhood best friend and what it was like to see her after ten years of barely speaking. I also shared a bunch of pictures from last weekend during my trip to see her.
  • I reviewed Take Me Now by Faith Sullivan and gave it 2.5 stars.
  • I didn't get a whole lot of writing done this week because I was busy with other things. I'm actually not sure of my word count for the week, but I know I need to pick up the pace over the weekend and next week!
  • Last weekend I went to visit one of my childhood best friends. We had a picnic with my family (who drove me up), then just hung out and had a really great time reconnecting (you can read all about it and see pics in my new feature that I mentioned above). I haven't done much this summer so it was fun to get away and not think about work.
  • I went out for lunch with friends this week and our waiter was one of the most beautiful boys I've ever seen. Like, so beautiful I'm seriously considering working him into one of my stories as the love interest. *sigh* It's kind of ridiculous how much time I've spent daydreaming about him since Thursday...
 How was your week? Did you get any new books? Have you read any good ones that you'd recommend? Tell me in the comments below or post a link to your Stacking the Shelves/Book Haul/In My Mailbox/Showcase Sunday, etc. Happy reading! <3

  1. Love your owl loot. Very cute. :)

    As for the waiter, I can totally get where you're coming from with that. Last year when my grandma was at the hospital when she was diagnosed with cancer, when I visited her I discovered the nurse who was in charge of looking after her coulda been a clone for Kesyl. That poor man... My grandma kept asking him where the nurse was because "Aren't nurses ladies?". >.>

  6. I love the owls! They're one of my favorite animals. :)

    My week was a great one. I go back to school on Tuesday, so I'm getting as much from the rest of my summer break as I can. I went camping with my friends earlier this week. :)
