Official blurb from Bout of Books
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender
and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that
begins 12:01am Monday, January 7th and runs through Sunday, January 13th
in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and
the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of
books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand
prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 6.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. -From the Bout of Books 6.0 team
This will be my second Bout of Books - yay! I'm looking forward to meeting some new bloggers, catching up with old ones, and getting a good start on my reading challenges for the year.
MY GOALS:
*Read every day!
*Read at least 700 pages altogether
*Visit and comment on at least 10 BoB blogs per day
*Participate in at least 3 challenges
THE BOOKS:
I'll likely change my mind a dozen times between now and then, but these are some of the books I will be picking from:
The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen {GoodReads}
Things I Can't Forget by Miranda Kenneally {GoodReads}
The Vincent Brothers by Abbi Glines {GoodReads}
Mind Games by Kiersten White {GoodReads}
Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor {GoodReads}
This Dark Endeavor by Kenneth Oppell {GoodReads}
UPDATES:
MondayNumber of pages/books I've read today: 98 pages of Deep Betrayal by Anne Greenwood Brown (was reading this when the BoB started)
Total number of pages I've read: 98
*Participated in the Scientific Discovery challenge hosted by The Book Barbies
Tuesday
Number of pages/books I've read today: 12 pages of Deep Betrayal by Anne Greenwood Brown. BOO!
Total number of pages I've read: 110
*I had a super busy day today and only got 12 pages read - gah! This book is so slow going I feel like I'm never going to finish it.
Wednesday
Number of pages/books I've read today: 60 pages of Deep Betrayal (finished!), started Mind Games - read 19 pages, worked on editing my manuscript and I'm so counting those pages since it took away from my other reading time - 53 pages.
Total number of pages I've read: 242
Thursday
Number of pages/books I've read today: Read 27 pages of my manuscript during revisions
Total number of books I've read: 269
*Boooo!!! Clearly I'm failing miserably at my goal of 100 pages a day. I thought this week was going to be quiet other than doing revisions on my novel but I've had a lot of unexpected distractions and interruptions. Hopefully I can get caught up tomorrow and over the weekend.
Today's challenge is Book Spine Poem, hosted by Escape Through the Pages. I love book spine poetry...here's what I came up with:
~This I Know:
Bright Young Things
Are Beautiful Creatures
Who Sweetly Vanish
Into that Fateful Tempest~

The Sugar Queen! I have this on my TBR pile. I loved Garden Spells by this author. :) Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I like the idea of reading every day and reading more than you usually do in a week, but I don't know if I could keep up with the rest. I hope you have fun with it though! :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun! I really enjoyed The Sugar Queen.
ReplyDeleteAwesome books, Marie! I loved This Dark Endeavour. :) And I need to read Days of Blood & Starlight sooon!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your reading!
Enjoy the read-a-thon. I loved The Sugar Queen. I haven't decided what to read, I will just decide after I finish each one! Depends on my mood and what the previous book was like.
ReplyDeleteHave fun! i've been missing you ( no answers to my mail or comment but i know you were really busy so don't worry) so i hope we will catch up a bit during this^^
ReplyDeleteThis dark endeavor is on my wish list! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh, this looks like fun! Are you doing the Wicked Valentine Read-a-thon next month? I'm going to hop over and sign up for this. :) What a great way to spend a cold winter week! I need to do some catch up anyway. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of having a goal of reading every day- it's so perfect! Because I know some days I have time to read for hours, and others, I only have a few minutes. I may steal that goal, since it totally works for me, rather than having a goal like reading for an hour everyday. Also, it's one of my goals to comment on other participants blogs as well. It's always great to meet new bloggers! =)
ReplyDeleteYou also have some fabulous books on your list, like Mind Games and Days of Blood and Starlight. I hope you enjoy them all!
Good luck with your goals, and happy reading! <3
