Update Thursday #4

I got this idea from the amazingly wonderful Jessica from Thoughts at One in the Morning. Every Thursday, I’ll be posting an update on my reading, writing, what’s going on at the blog, and anything else I think should be mentioned.

Whoa, I haven't done an Update Thursday since June! I didn't have a chance through July because of my Canadian Spotlight Month, and then this month my blogging habits have been a bit off, so...here we are. Hopefully I can make this a weekly thing again.

READING:
Yesterday I finished Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry. If I could give this book more than five stars, I would. It was incredible. I'm hoping to post my review of it tomorrow...I also hope I can do it justice!

Right now I'm reading Love and Other Perishable Items by Laura Buzo. It's a NetGalley book, so I'm reading it as part of Review Copy Cleanup and NetGalley Knockout. I'm about 63% of the way through. It's cute but kind of pointless.

Next up is Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson. This is one I actually broke down and bought (if you know me at all, you'll know I almost never buy books). I loved Matson's Amy and Roger's Epic Detour (it's another one I'd give more than five stars to if I could), and I've been dying to get my hands on this one, so after entering a zillion giveaways and not winning it, I finally found it for a really good price and bought it. I have a thing about reading summer books in summer, so I had to have it!

ON THE BLOG:
I talked about my top ten favourite books that I've read during the lifespan of my blog.

I reviewed Keep Holding On by Susane Colasanti (I gave it 3.5 stars).

I signed up for the Strictly Sequels Read-a-thon. Please, please consider signing up for this one - it takes place September 1st-3rd and is in desperate need of more participants!

I reviewed Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson (I gave it 5 stars). This book was amazing!

I reviewed Peter Pan by JM Barrie (I gave it 4 stars). I read this one before reading Tiger Lily so I'd be more familiar with the original Pan tale.

I reviewed Kissing Shakespeare by Pamela Mingle (I gave it 3 stars).

WRITING:
I haven't done any actual writing lately because I've been busy doing revisions for book 2. I've got a little less than eight chapters left to go through, then my alpha reader gets to read it, and then my betas! I can't wait to get it out there and see what other people think. A few people know the title (I announced it in a roundabout kind of way on Thoughts at One in the Morning a few weeks ago), but I've managed to avoid giving any details - even characters' names - to anyone, including my alpha who is the person who gets to know everything before anyone else does.

I'm actually not changing much other than a few spelling/grammar/punctuation mistakes, which is kind of weird. Usually the first revision is where the meat of the story really happens, but I guess because it took me so long to write this one, I already got the meat of the story out. I haven't had any new ideas for it, whereas for book three, I've been making notes ever since I finished writing it. Go figure. I'm hoping my alpha and betas will have some suggestions (not that I want to spend a whole hell of a lot of time in the revision process, but it's a necessary evil).

IN OTHER NEWS:
My friend Laura bought me an ereader! I couldn't believe it. If you've been here before, you might have heard me talk about how I wish I had an ereader because I have to read all my ebooks on the computer, but after working on the computer all day it's torture rather than pleasure to sit here to read. So I am now the proud owner of a beautiful Kobo! I don't have a picture of it, but I'll be showing it in my Book Haul video this weekend. Hopefully now I can get caught up on my review books a bit quicker.

What's new with you? What have you been reading and blogging about lately?

  1. Yay! You're going to read Second Chance Summer!! It's AWESOME, Marie!! I hope you love it. :)

I was eyeing Love and Other Perishable Items ... kind of pointless, huh? Looks like it'll be a library read!

Yay for the new eReader! I don't think I could read books on the computer. I've only done it with one novella and it was TORTURE! Enjoy your Kobo!

  2. Score on that ereader! I love mine so much. I am still considering that read-a-thon, but I think I've got too much going on that weekend to accomplish anything reading-wise. Oh well. Maybe next time! :)

I can't wait to hear more about your stories... synopsis and release dates and everything! It's so exciting, especially since you have two books in the works. ;) I need to put some more time aside and get my butt moving on my stories.
