Synopsis:
Rachel Summers loves a to-do list:
• Boyfriend
• Flat
• Great job

NOT on the list:

• Being dumped

Best friends Emelie and Matthew ride to her rescue with an entirely new kind of list – The Single Girl’s To-Do List. Rachel doesn’t know it, but it will take her on all kinds of wild adventures – and get her in some romantic pickles too. And then it won't be a case of what but who she decides to tick off…

• Mr. bendy yoga instructor

• Mr. teenage sweetheart
• Mr. persistent ex
• Mr. deeply unsuitable

The Single Girl’s To-Do List gives Rachel the perfect heartbreak cure – and proves love is out there if you’re willing to take a chance.

Rachel is obsessive-compulsive about her lists. She makes lists for absolutely everything, so when her long-term boyfriend Simon breaks up with her, her two best friends, Emelie and Matthew, think the natural solution for helping her get over the break-up is to make a new list - a single girl’s to-do list. Rachel isn’t used to being single - she normally goes from relationship to relationship, and Emelie and Matthew think she needs to learn to be on her own.

What follows is a hilarious adventure interspersed with life lessons and touching moments. For people who enjoy chick lit, this book has all the elements of good chick lit without being overly fluffy and mindless. I loved that, unlike a lot of chick lit, Rachel didn’t do stupid, desperate things to get the guy. So many chick lit books portray women as needy, foolish creatures who will do anything to get a guy, and who can’t possibly be happy unless they have a guy.

Rachel was a very believable, relatable character, and I liked her instantly. I also loved her best friends Emelie and Matthew. They were so funny, and their interactions with each other and with Rachel were often comical. They were amazing, loyal friends who clearly wanted the best for Rachel. I thought the trio was pretty much perfect, and I was happy that the story focused a lot on their friendship.

I thought the concept of the list was brilliant. It starts out as something Rachel has to do to appease her friends, but it quickly turns into so much more - her tasks help to open her up, heal, and move on, and they make her realize who she really is and what she really wants, even if it’s completely different from what she always thought. Along the way she realizes that even though she needs to learn to be on her own, she’s not really alone - she has wonderful friends who will be there for her no matter what.

Rachel also learns to be open to the possibility of a new relationship. I liked the two potential love interests in the book, and what they both had to teach Rachel...plus there were some pretty steamy scenes, which I enjoyed! And even though there were potential love interests, I appreciated that they weren't the main focus of the story.

Overall, I thought this was a cute, funny read, and I enjoyed it very much. I would definitely recommend it to chick lit fans, or to those looking for a quick, light read. After reading this book, I’m looking forward to trying Kelk’s ‘I Heart…’ series.

Have you read any of Lindsey Kelk's books? What are your feelings toward 'chick lit'?
