Wicked Wildfire Read-a-Thon

I’m very excited to be participating in the Wicked Wildfire Read-a-Thon, hosted by the lovely April from My Shelf Confessions and Bex from Kindle Fever. This is their third read-a-thon, and I love being able to say that I’ve participated in all three! I’ve had a fantastic time at each one, and I’ve made a bunch of new friends each time, which is quite possibly the best part.

This time around, I have the pleasure of hosting a challenge as part of the R-A-T, so be sure to check back tomorrow for that!

I’m not sure how much reading I’ll get done today and tomorrow because my 2-year-old nephew is here, but I’m hoping to make up for it the other days. I’m a pretty slow reader, so it’s probably ambitious to pick three books, but here’s what I’m hoping to read:

Stolen Away by Alyxandra Harvey (currently on page 102)
Flirting in Italian (currently on page 48)
Blood Feud by Alyxandra Harvey

I'll be tweeting as I go, so be sure to look for me - SweetMarie83

Challenge #1, hosted by Bex
“A wildfire is quickly coming your way! What thing/s do you grab when you only have a few minutes to make it out?”
(I’ve saved any people or pets in there already!)

This is really hard! I have A LOT of stuff. But it's not just stuff, it all has meaning to me. I know you shouldn't get attached to material possessions, yada, yada, but I've been given a lot of special gifts over the years, and I also have a lot of stuff that belonged to my Grama, who died last August, so everything of hers is precious. Anyway...I know it's just a challenge, but it's actually something I've thought about, hence the ramblings lol. If I had to choose...I'd grab my camera, my external harddrive, my journal, the teddy bear my dad made me before he died, the four dolls I've had since I was a baby (and who are still in my room, easy to grab!), a few of the things my Grama painted for me, and the painting I bought in France (major sentimental attachment - I was with my best friend, and we saw the artist paint it, plus my mum spent a fortune having it framed as a surprise). My first instinct was books, but they can all be replaced. I'd go for the things that have the most sentimental value, I think.

How about you? What would you take?

Challenge #2, hosted by Kimba
Share your favorite drink recipe and the cover of your favorite/most anticipated summer read!

I’d love to share a cocktail recipe with you guys, but I honestly don’t know any! When I drink mixed drinks, other people make them or they’re those pre-made ones, so my bartending skills lean more toward pouring (and drinking) than mixing.

Lately, I’m all about smoothies. I’m trying to eat healthier and get lots of exercise, so smoothies are my breakfast of choice most days. They’re quick, easy, delicious, and nutritious! I usually just add whatever happens to be on hand, but if I could make my ideal smoothie, this is what would be in it:

Marie's Summer Slim-Down Smoothie
1 banana
1/2 cup sliced strawberries
1/2 cup sliced peaches
1 container low-fat yogurt - flavor of your choice
1/2 cup low-fat milk

Put ingredients in a blender, and blend - it’s that simple! If you add all the ingredients, it'll probably make enough for 2 servings, so share with a friend, or store in the fridge for later!

Note: I personally don’t add ice, because I don’t like the way it waters down the milk products, plus my blender doesn’t blend ice anyway. I have one of those handheld stick blenders, and they’re super handy for smoothies so I don’t have to wash an entire blender every day.

As for my most anticipated book of the summer, it's probably Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson. I love all things Peter Pan, and this book just sounds amazing, plus one of my best blogging buddies read and reviewed it recently and gave it her highest rating, so I pretty much know I'll love it since we almost always love the same books!

Before Peter Pan belonged to Wendy, he belonged to the girl with the crow feather in her hair. . . .
Fifteen-year-old Tiger Lily doesn't believe in love stories or happy endings. Then she meets the alluring teenage Peter Pan in the forbidden woods of Neverland and immediately falls under his spell.
Peter is unlike anyone she's ever known. Impetuous and brave, he both scares and enthralls her. As the leader of the Lost Boys, the most fearsome of Neverland's inhabitants, Peter is an unthinkable match for Tiger Lily. Soon, she is risking everything—her family, her future—to be with him. When she is faced with marriage to a terrible man in her own tribe, she must choose between the life she's always known and running away to an uncertain future with Peter.
With enemies threatening to tear them apart, the lovers seem doomed. But it's the arrival of Wendy Darling, an English girl who's everything Tiger Lily is not, that leads Tiger Lily to discover that the most dangerous enemies can live inside even the most loyal and loving heart.
From the New York Times bestselling author of Peaches comes a magical and bewitching story of the romance between a fearless heroine and the boy who wouldn't grow up.

What do you think? Are you going to try my smoothie? What's your most anticipated book of the summer?

  1. I think you'd really resonate with an article I wrote. It tackles two topics. One is how people keep minimizing the connection with physical mementoes. http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/2012/01/24/good-ills-objects-technology/

I want to do your Canadian challenge! I didn't think you were from here because your URL ends with '.se' but I value your spotlight either way.
