Welcome to the sign-ups for The Canadian Reading Challenge! This is an idea I got last summer shortly after turning this blog into a book blog. I wanted to do it right away, but thought the perfect time to do it would be July, since Canada Day is July 1st. I’ve been thinking about it all year, and I’ve talked about it a bit over the last couple of months, so today I’m really excited to finally post more information about the challenge, along with the sign-ups.
Here’s the challenge in a nutshell (there are more detailed guidelines below): Between July 1st and July 31st, read a minimum of three (3) books either by Canadian authors, or set in Canada. Post the reviews on your blog (or, if you don’t have a blog, GoodReads or Amazon will do), then post the link in the Linky I’ll be setting up on July 1st.
PURPOSE OF THIS CHALLENGE:
To bring attention to Canadian authors and show the love! I'm sure a lot of people will be surprised that some of their favorite authors are Canadian, or that authors they've heard of but haven't read yet are Canadian. For example, until I was getting ready for the challenge, I had no idea that the author of Water for Elephants was Canadian. Pretty cool, eh?
The month of July will be dedicated to all things Canadian here at Ramblings of a Daydreamer, and this challenge is kicking everything off.
CHALLENGE GUIDELINES:
-To complete the challenge and be eligible for the prizes, you must read a minimum of three (3) books either by Canadian authors or set in Canada. You can find a list of Canadian authors here (if you know of any others, feel free to leave a comment and I’ll add them to the list).
-I’ll be posting a Linky on July 1st for you to add your reviews to. Reviews must be posted for the first time between July 1st and July 31st to count toward the challenge.
-You can sign up anytime, as long as you follow the rest of the guidelines. I’ll be leaving sign-ups open until July 30th so that people who see this in July and want to participate won’t get left out.
-Please follow Ramblings of a Daydreamer through GFC.
-This challenge is open to everyone. You don’t have to blog to participate, as long as you can post your reviews somewhere (GoodReads, Amazon, etc).
Feel free to grab the button to share on your blog!
PRIZES:
For each person who completes the challenge (ie, posts and shares at least three reviews before midnight EST on July 31st), your name will be entered into a draw to win one of the following books. For those who complete the challenge, you will get one entry for every book read and reviewed (so if you read 5 books, you’ll get 5 entries). Winner will be selected at random, and will be contacted at the beginning of August. This giveaway will be international, as long as the Book Depository ships to you.
I’ll be hosting several giveaways during July, and there will be one specific one that is ONLY open to participants of the challenge, so technically there will be two winners at the end of the July for those who complete the challenge. Details on that second giveaway will be posted later. This particular giveaway will only be open to residents of Canada, as this book has been very generously donated by the publisher, and they’re handling shipping costs.
If the winner absolutely can't find a book here that interests them, they can pick a Canadian book of their choice from the Book Depository up to $10 CDN.
Oh I wish I could do this! I've been wanting to reread Anne Of Green Gables. I've got a lot of books that are ahead of books that would count toward this challenge. Maybe next year! :D

ReplyDeleteSIGNED UP! Thanks for the great Challenge! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great challenge! I signed up, tweeted, and posted about it on my blog. Looking forward to July!
ReplyDeleteI have a few books by some Canadian authors and this is just the motivation I need to crack them open and read. (Yeah, I'm bad and need motivation. I blame my writing and wanting to get that done before reading anything.)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get started :) I'd been saving a couple of books for this (ReVamped being one I have to read in July anyway) - and I'll now also drag Water for Elephants from the middle of the tbr pile. Very excited Kelley Armstrong is in there - I've not read any of hers for a while, so this is a great reason

I was excited to spot this. Happy to give Canadian authors for everyone's benefit. No time to see who you already show, going from page to page is slow for dial-up. Don't care for vampires, it's very kind to offer $10.00 at Book Depository. Am sure grateful to get something on my list already.

Signed up! This is a FANTASTIC challenge, thank you for hosting this! I have a few ideas for which books I would like to read. And I have a new Canadian YA author I would like to add to the challenge: Tom Ryan, WAY TO GO. Just discovered this title at a local bookstore, and would like to read this for the challenge :)
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great challenge! I wish I didn't have so many review copies on my plate so that I could participate!! Have fun, everyone!
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend Still Missing by Chevy Stevens.
This is a great challenge. I will be sure to follow everyone's progress, unfortunately I have another big commitment for July.
ReplyDeleteI already have Alias Grace and The Book of Negroes on my summer reading list... one more and I'm there! I don't know if I can get through both those monsters before the end of July, though :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great challenge idea! Thanks for hosting!
Hello Marie, I'm well stocked in Canadian authors. What would really work for me is $10.00 Book Depository shipment knocking something I need off my desperate wish list. If you don't mind how the $10.00 is spent, I'm glad to be among 8 participants. Would also be glad to help advertise the event.
ReplyDeleteI fully intended to participate in this meme, even have a few books specially chosen to read this month, but then we decided to put our house on the market and the mayhem ensues. Sorry, but I will not be able to follow through on this one.
ReplyDeleteHappy to sign up ! only sorry the first link doesn't work - feel free to delete the #13 entry as #14 works well..
ReplyDeleteare you interested in joining the ongoing 6th yr of Canadian Reading Challenge ? link is posted at my blog if you do ..
