Friday Recap + my thoughts on Breaking Dawn Part 1

Hi everyone! I'm not doing the regular Friday posts this week, but I wanted to do a recap of what's been happening on the blog, plus I finally saw Breaking Dawn Part 1 tonight and wanted to share my thoughts.

As you can see, it's been a busy week here on the blog. I've decided to cut back on the memes I participate in because they're too time-consuming, and a lot of the time I don't think I have anything really interesting to add. I'll still check the themes/questions every week and participate once in awhile, but I'd rather go for quality over quantity from now on. I'm going to try to focus more on reviews and hopefully some proper article-type/opinion posts that I hope you guys will enjoy. Plus, as I get closer to the Blue Sky Days launch date, I'll probably be talking quite a bit about that!

Anyway, tonight I went to see Breaking Dawn Part 1 with my friend Suleena. She and I have seen all the movies together, so it's become a tradition of sorts. For the most part, I try to stay out of the Twilight conversations/debates in the blogosphere because so many people have such strong opinions when it comes to this series and some people are downright nasty! I will freely admit that I loved the books - I own all four of them and have been saying for ages that I want to reread them. I read them before the whole movie craze started, so my opinion was based solely on the books. As for the movies...not a huge fan. I think the acting is terrible and awkward, and a lot of it just isn't how I pictured it. BUT, after Eclipse, I thought the acting was starting to get better and things were starting to look up. I was pleasantly surprised with Breaking Dawn....I actually quite enjoyed it, and I was left feeling eager for the next movie. Kristen Stewart isn't so painfully awkward in this one, and I thought this was Robert Pattinson's best performance in the saga so far. I've always loved Taylor Lautner, the guy who plays Charlie, and most of the Cullens, but thought they all did a good job in this movie.

Random thoughts:
*I hated Bella's wedding dress. I thought the dress she wore in her dream before the wedding was much prettier.
*I wasn't really looking forward to the sex scene because Robert and Kristen don't really do anything for me, but I thought it was beautifully done. It was sexy but it was also tasteful, and I thought the background music was perfect. It's hard to find a happy medium, because there are fans that are very young, but I think the majority are probably teens and people in their twenties, thirties, and older. I know a lot of mums are obsessed with Twilight, haha. Also, I really wanted to hear Edward say 'I bit a pillow'...was kind of disappointed they left that out!
*The scene where the werewolves are all mind-communicating was weird and I just kind of sat there thinking 'wtf'?  I alternated between giggling at how ridiculous it was, and thinking I was going to have nightmares because the wolves freaked me out a little, plus that whole scene was SO LOUD.
*I know a lot of people give Stephenie Meyer flack over the name 'Renesmé' but I thought it was clever until I heard  Bella say it out loud and I realized how ridiculous it sounds. It's strange how it sounds ok in my head, but it sounds bizarre when you say it out loud. I'm weird, I know.
*I thought the special effects were great, especially how Bella kept getting thinner and ghastlier, looking so old and sick. It all looked so real.
*The part where the baby was born totally traumatized me. Gross. I had to keep looking away and I really wanted to plug my ears, too. That's what I do when I'm watching True Blood and know a gross part is coming - close my eyes and plug my ears lol. My nephew likes the Twilight movies, but I definitely won't be letting him watch this one.

On a side note, I was super excited to see the trailer for The Hunger Games on the big screen! I squeed really loud when it came on. I'm trying to convince Suleena to read the trilogy and then see the movie with me next year. I'm sure even if she doesn't read it, she'll still see the movie with me because she's just that type of friend.

I hope you've all had a great week. I also hope you didn't mind my totally random post...it's 1:30am and I'm getting a little punchy lol. We basically celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, so I have a lot of prep to do today and thought I'd get my post out of the way! Wish me luck as I clean, cook, bake, wrap the rest of the presents, and basically run around like a chicken with its head cut off! I'm sure I'll post again on the weekend, but just in case, Merry Christmas, everyone!!

Have you seen Breaking Dawn? What did you think? What do you think of the Twilight Saga in general?

  1. I liked Breaking Dawn too. I cried when the baby was born and it gave its first cry, I couldn't help it. Part of being a fairly new mom I guess LOL. I did enjoy it though, I'd see it again, and I'll be buying it.

  2. I liked the movie a lot. They did a good job this time. It made me tear up two times (I fought the crying, which is hard for me), and then I just broke down when Jacob was sobbing at the end. I do have to say that I got excited to see the Hunger Games preview too! :)

  3. I watched Breaking Dawn on the first day of its release. I have to say, I did not like the Breaking Dawn book AT ALL, so I was really apprehensive, but I think of all the movies, they did the best job with this one. I actually, really liked it :)
I thought Bella's dying scene was fantastically done. It felt like a punch in the guts - and frankly, I didn't think any of the Twilight movies could do that to me.
And about the wedding dress: I really loved how it looked from the back but HATED the front part. The material just looked really cheap for some reason.

And OHMYFREAKINGGOD, I cannot wait for March 23rd! Have you heard the Taylor Swift/Civil Wars single from the soundtrack? It's perfect-o!

  4. Hi Marie! A great post :)

I haven't seen Breaking Dawn as yet (or Eclipse), I loved the books & have read each a few times now ;) but I just couldn't get into the movies.
