A to Z Challenge Day 9: Insanity

Today's A to Z challenge post is short, unlike some of my previous posts.  I hope you all had a great weekend and that you're ready to face the week with bright eyes and even brighter hopes and dreams.

I flirt with insanity on a daily basis.  I think that almost all artists do in some way, whatever their form of art is.  As a writer myself, and knowing several writers, we seem like a bunch of quirky, eccentric, brooding nuts - and I mean that in the best way possible.  In fact, I think the crazier we are, the better.  We have to have wild, vivid, overactive imaginations, we have to see story ideas in everyone and everything, in every conversation and outing and situation.  We spend hours by ourselves, locked away, separated from the rest of the world, living inside our own heads.  We create imaginary worlds and people, and grow to love them as if they were real people.  If we're really good - and crazy - to us they are real people.  Our brilliance often comes from our insanity and our insanity from our brilliance.  I, for one, wouldn't have it any other way.

Now, completely off-topic but it has to do with the letter I, so I'm going with it.  3 months from today - exactly 13 weeks - I will be seeing U2 live in concert for the 3rd time.  The first time was in September 2005, and the second time was November of the same year.  What does that have to do with the letter I?  Well, Interpol will be opening for them.  I've been familiar with Interpol for several years, a friend of mine gave me one of their CDs a long time ago, and I've been reacquainting myself with their music since I found out they were opening for U2.  By the time of the concert in July, I'll have had my tickets for almost 2 years - I was supposed to see them last July but the concert was postponed after Bono's back injury.  I meant to post a song for my H post - Hot Hot Heat's 'Middle of Nowhere' so today I've actually remembered to post an Interpol song - I have a few favorites but this one is currently at the top of my list.

Have a great day!

  1. There's a fine line between insanity and genius, lol. I love how you say that we spend hours by ourselves, imagining other worlds and listening to voices in our heads. How true. Good thing this kind of insanity can be managed. Great "I" post!

  3. I so share your opinion that insanity is something we should embrace and enjoy. It might make us nuts otherwise *shifty*

  4. Great "I" post and I totally embrace my insanity. I actually have a shirt that reads, "I do whatever the voices inside my head tell me to." :)
