Before Perry and Aria, there was Roar and Liv.

After a childhood spent wandering the borderlands, Roar finally feels like he has a home with the Tides. His best friend Perry is like a brother to him, and Perry's sister, Liv, is the love of his life. But Perry and Liv's unpredictable older brother, Vale, is the Blood Lord of the Tides, and he has never looked kindly on Roar and Liv's union. Normally, Roar couldn't care less about Vale's opinion. But with food running low and conditions worsening every day, Vale's leadership is more vital—and more brutal—than ever. Desperate to protect his tribe, Vale makes a decision that will shatter the life Roar knew and change the fate of the Tides forever.

Set in the harsh but often beautiful world of Veronica Rossi's "unforgettable" Under the Never Sky (, this captivating prequel novella stands on its own for new readers and offers series fans a fascinating look into the character of Roar.

I fell in love with Roar from his very first scene in Under the Never Sky, so when I found out Veronica Rossi was writing an entire novella dedicated to Roar, you can imagine my excitement. He’s so funny and sweet and caring and sexy, and he was a bit of a scene stealer whenever he made an appearance in Under the Never Sky

Roar and Liv takes place right before Under the Never Sky. We never get to meet Liv in UTNS, but we hear a lot about her from both Perry and Roar. It was nice to officially ‘meet’ the girl that Roar is so crazy in love with, and to see them interact. Their sweet little moments together and their conversations made me laugh, swoon, sigh, and a couple of them were downright sexy and nearly took my breath away.

I also loved seeing more of Perry and Roar together. I adore those two! Their relationship runs so much deeper than friendship - they’re like brothers (or as Perry said to Roar, “You’re better than a brother” - which just about made me cry).

For a short story, Rossi sure packed an emotional punch. I felt like I spent a lot of the story grinning like an idiot and giggling like a school girl at the things Roar said and thought, but beyond that, there were really touching moments between Roar and Liv and Roar and Perry, and just like in Under the Never Sky, Vale, Perry and Liv’s older brother made my blood boil.

An excellent addition to the Under the Never Sky series, Roar and Liv is a little taste of the amazing world and characters Rossi built, and it makes me even more eager for Through the Ever Night (January 2013)

Have you read Under the Never Sky or Roar and Liv? What did you think?

  1. YESSSS. I cannot WAIT to read this one already. It's on my TBR FOR SOON. I love Roar like you do, so I'm psyched you liked it. Thanks for the mini-review - now I know I need to read FASTER to get to Roar and Liv!

  2. My thoughts after reading this review: So much for my semi-book buying ban... LOL. But that's a good thing! I love to swoon, and UTNS was a brilliant piece of literature. Since I just read it, it only makes sense that I try to read this one soon... even more so with Through The Ever Night coming out soon too! <3
