Tune in Tuesday Week 3 - Soundtrack Edition: Labyrinth

Tune in Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ginger at GReads that showcases music.  Music for me is right up there with reading and writing, so even though this particular meme isn't about reading and writing, I thought it would be a fun one to participate in. If you're interested in participating, be sure to check out Ginger's blog so you can spread your love of music!

This week kicks off the Soundtrack Edition of Tune in Tuesday. One of my all-time favorite soundtracks comes from one of my all-time favorite movies, Labyrinth. It used to be that hardly anyone had heard of this movie, but I've been finding more and more people who not only know of, but also love this movie. For those of you who don't know, the movie came out in the 80s, stars Jennifer Connelly as Sarah, and David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King. Sarah is a fanciful girl who lives in a make-believe world, but is forced into the real world by her parents when she has to babysit her baby brother Toby. One dark and stormy night, Sarah calls upon the goblins (innocently, in her mind), to come and take her brother...and they do. She has to go to Goblin City, make her way through the labyrinth to the castle and get her brother back from the Goblin King. She has a lot of trials and mishaps along the way, meets some crazy characters who become her friends...long story short, it's one of the best movies ever with an amazing soundtrack.

The song I chose for today isn't just my favorite song from the movie, it's one of my favorite songs of all time. It's so beautiful, and I love the scene in the movie where Sarah's dreaming that they're at a masquerade and Jareth is singing this song...even at 6 or 7 when I first discovered this movie, I was madly in love with Jareth lol. I think this is probably what started my obsession with masquerade balls (even though the one in the movie is seriously creepy).

As the World Falls Down by David Bowie
From the movie Labyrinth (1986)
This video has a bit of the movie before the song

Favorite lines from this song:
*This is hard because I love pretty much every line in this song*

"There's such a fooled heart
Beating so fast in search of new dreams
A love that will last within your heart
I'll place the moon within your heart"

"I'll paint you mornings of gold
I'll spin you Valentine evenings
Though we're strangers til now
We're choosing the path between the stars
I'll leave my love between the stars"

*****
U2 lyric of the week:

"You say you want diamonds on a ring of gold
You say you want your story to remain untold
But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you"

  8. OMG! It has been years since I saw this movie! Like, back when they used to show matinees of kid movies Sunday mornings.

I don't think I even remembered this song, lol but it sort of seems familiar.

    Nice pick.
