It's Monday! What Are You Reading? #11

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. The idea is to share what you've read lately, what you're currently reading, and what you plan to read next. I love seeing what other people are reading and then adding to my never-ending TBR, so I thought this would be a fun meme to participate in each week!

Happy Monday, book lovers! It's been a few weeks since my last It's Monday post, and I've read quite a few books since then.

What I Finished Reading:

  • Dust and Shadow: An Account of the Ripper Killings by John H Watson by Lyndsay Faye ~ I love all things Sherlock-related and I’ve had a morbid fascination with Jack the Ripper for many years, so I really enjoyed this book. I particularly liked how it was told from Dr. Watson’s perspective, just like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original Sherlock stories.
  • With Malice by Eileen Cook ~This one was just okay for me. I’ve read several of Cook’s books, and they’re hit or miss for me. This was supposed to be a thriller but it was slow and not that much actually happened.
  • Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia ~This is easily one of my favourite books of 2017 so far. Highly recommend, especially if you're nerdy, into fandom, or have anxiety.
  • Racing the Sun by Karina Halle ~This was my first book by Halle and I really enjoyed it. I particularly loved the Italian setting.
  • The Foxe and the Hound by RS Grey ~ This was my third book by Grey, and I found it just okay. It's a 'romantic comedy', but I didn't find it that funny and the story dragged, plus I didn't really like the characters.

What I'm Currently Reading:
  • London Belongs to Us by Sarra Manning ~ I'm obsessed with London and I've had my eye on this book for ages. I finally got the ebook last week with money from a gift card I won - yay!
  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid ~ Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of my favourite authors, and I can't wait to dive into her newest release.
  • Girl Hearts Girl by Lucy Sutcliffe ~ I got this one with a gift card last week, too. I'm trying to read as many LGBTQ+ books as I can during Pride Month, and I thought this would make a nice addition since it's non-fiction and I don't read a lot of non-fiction.

What I Plan to Read Next:
  • The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee ~ I've had an ARC of this for ages and had hoped to read it much sooner (it comes out the 27th), but I'm excited to start it soon. I've heard nothing but great things!

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? #10

Happy Monday, book lovers! Can you believe we're already halfway through May?

I participated in the Savvy Read-a-thon on Saturday and managed to get two and a half books read, which is amazing for me since I'm a really slow reader. It was a lot of fun - I met some new readers and even won a book!

Here's what I've been reading since my last Monday update two weeks ago.

What I Finished Reading:
  • A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas ~ I FINALLY FINISHED! Even though I really enjoyed this one, I kept setting it aside because I was getting behind on review books. Between that and the length and the fact I'm a slow reader, it took me ages to read. Now I can't wait to dive into A Court of Wings and Ruin
  • Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy ~ One of my favourite books of 2017 so far. A fantastic contemporary YA.
  • The Chateau of Happily Ever Afters by Jaimie Admans ~ An adorable, hilarious romantic comedy. This one comes out June 7th, but is available for pre-order now.
  • It's Not Like It's a Secret by Misa Sugiura ~ This was a story featuring a Japanese-American queer girl. I had mixed feelings about this one. While I appreciated the honest discussions/portrayals about racism, the story itself was pretty slow and draggy and way too long. I probably should have DNF'd this one but f/f stories are so rare, especially ones where the main character is also a person of colour.
  • Macy McMillan and the Rainbow Goddess by Shari Green ~ A sweet and poignant Middle Grade story told in verse about a Deaf girl whose family is growing and changing

What I'm Currently Reading:
  • Dust and Shadow: An Account of The Ripper Killers by Dr. John H Watson by Lyndsay Faye ~ Sherlock Holmes and John Watson + Jack the Ripper? This book was written for me!

What I Plan to Read Next:
I honestly don't know. I usually plan ahead so that I can fit all my review books in, but I want to read more 'me' books since I've been reading a lot of review books lately. I'm also trying to finish a few more squares for Bookish Bingo before the month is out, so I need to plan accordingly!

Hello and happy May, book lovers! I can't believe we're already four whole months into 2017. This year is going by so fast. I'll have my April Recap up on the blog at some point this week, but for now, here's what I've been reading since my last Monday post.

What I Finished Reading:
  • It Happened on Love Street by Lia Riley ~ This was a super cute and funny contemporary romance. You can find the link to my review below.
  • That Thing We Call a Heart by Sheba Karim ~ This was a cute coming-of-age story about a Pakistani-American girl dealing with first love, friendship, and family. It comes out next week, and my review will be up around release day.
What I'm Currently Reading:
  • A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas ~ I'm trying to finish this in preparation for the release of book three tomorrow!
  • Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy ~ I'm really enjoying this coming-of-age story.

What I Plan to Read Next:
  • A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas ~ This one comes out tomorrow, and it's how I'll be spending the Chapters gift card a friend gave me recently!
  • The Chateau of Happily Ever Afters by Jaimie Admans ~ Jaimie was one of my first friends when I started blogging and decided to self-publish. I love her books, and it's been quite a while since she released a new one, so I'm really excited about this one.

What I Finished Reading:

  • Promises to Keep by Genevieve Graham ~ A fantastic Canadian historical fiction novel about the Acadian Expulsion in the 1700s
  • The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli ~ This book is perfection. It's been a long time since I connected so strongly with a book. My review will be up tomorrow.
What I'm Currently Reading:
It Happened on Love Street by Lia Riley - I love Lia Riley's books and I'm really enjoying this cute, funny, sexy romance

What I Plan to Read Next:
The Edge of the Abyss by Emily Skrutskie ~ I loved Skrustskie's debut, The Abyss Surrounds Us - pirates, sea monsters, and kick-ass girls. I feel like I've been waiting forever for this sequel, and I can't wait to dive in.

I love seeing what other people are reading and then adding to my never-ending TBR, so I thought this would be a fun meme to participate in each week!

What I Read Last Week:

Let it Shine by Alyssa Cole
How Not to Fall in Love by Deirdre Riordan Hall
Love and Shenanigans by Zara Keane

I'm so behind on writing reviews, but I really enjoyed Let it Shine (set during the Civil Rights Movement and featuring a black heroine and a Jewish hero) and Love and Shenanigans (funny, cute, and set in Ireland which is always a bonus for me). I did review How Not to Fall in Love, though, and I have a guest post from the author up too.

What I'm Currently Reading:
Long Road Home by Marie Meyer ~ I loved Meyer's The Turning Point, and I'm enjoying Long Road Home so far.

What I'm Reading Next:
Star-Crossed by Barbara Dee ~ LGBTQ Middle Grade! I'm so excited to read this one. It comes out March 14th.
Flying by the Seat of my Knickers by Eliza Watson ~ I mentioned week before last that I plan to do another Irish Week the week of St. Patrick's (next week - eep!) so I'm going to try to get to this book in the next few days so I can have it read and reviewed for next week.

News:
This is Read an e-Book Week, and two of my novels are on sale on Smashwords. You can get Blue Sky Days (New Adult Romance) and The Game Changer (Contemporary Women's Fiction) for just $1.50 with the code RAE50.
