Stacking the Shelves + What's Happening October 12th

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews

WON:
 A $25 Amazon gift card from the lovely ladies at The Book Belles for participating in the read-along for Smart Girls Get What They Want. Thanks so much, girls! :-)

BOUGHT:
 Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor {GoodReads}
Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier {GoodReads}

I read (and LOVED) Daughter of Smoke and Bone early last year, but I got it from the library and I always said someday I'd like to own it, especially since I bought the second book, Days of Blood ad Starlight, when it came out (even though I still haven't read it...oopsy). The other day I got an email from Chapters about free shipping on all orders, so I perused the bargain books and found these two for a great price. I figure I'll reread Daughter of Smoke and Bone, finally read Days of Blood and Starlight, and then be ready for Dreams of Gods and Monsters when it comes out in April.
I got Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier for Christmas last year (again, still haven't read it...again, oopsy), so when I saw Sapphire Blue was on sale, and that the last book in the trilogy, Emerald Green, had just come out this week, I figured I could read the whole trilogy at once.

That's it! I was a really good girl and didn't buy any ebooks this week (a first), and I didn't get any books for review. *phew*

Friday Night Bites by Chloe Neill {GoodReads}

Not gonna lie, I was disappointed with this book. I loved the first book, Some Girls Bite, but found this one really slow and kind of boring. It took me almost two weeks to read it, which, of course, has put me behind in my monthly reading goal.
Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer {GoodReads}
The Calling by Kelley Armstrong {GoodReads}

  • I reviewed Just One Day by Gayle Forman and gave it 4 stars

Reminders:
  • I've got 2 giveaways going on to celebrate the cover reveal of my holiday novella, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. You can enter to win a $10 Amazon gift card or PayPal cash, plus an ARC of the book.

I thought this week would be a quiet one, but I ended up hardly being home. I'm so tired!

The highlight of my week was Thursday, which I spent with my family. I stayed with my younger nephew and niece while my mum and sister-in-law took my older nephew to a doctor's appointment, then we had dinner together.

It's Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada. We're having our family dinner on Sunday. Should be fun!

My holiday novella, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, is available for preorder on Kobo! It should be available on Barnes & Noble and Apple in the next few days. I really wish Kindle offered preorders for indie authors, but they don't.

How was your week? Did you get any new books? Have you read any good ones that you'd recommend? Tell me in the comments below or post a link to your Stacking the Shelves/Book Haul/In My Mailbox/Showcase Sunday, etc. Happy reading! <3

  3. Looks like you got a couple nice new additions to your library. :) I still need to get Days of Blood and Starlight. I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bones but I read that such a long time ago. *laughs*

    My family is having thanksgiving tomorrow, too. :) Everyone's coming here, plus tomorrow morning I get to go to Kingston with my dad and get my Pokemon and Skylanders preorders. :D Between the food, the family and the (admittedly self-bought) presents, this is going to be a pretty awesome weekend. :D

  4. Sapphire Blue has a very nice cover and reminds me of the covers for some of the Classic Editions of certain books. Looks like you got to spend some quality time with the family that's always nice.

  6. I've been super interested in reading Ruby Red since I first heard about it, BUT, it kept getting put further back on the TBR list. It's great you'll be able to read them all at once!

    Have a great weekend! I know you will. :)

    AND congrats on the preorders being up! I saw that B&N was up and I may or may not have preordered a copy... ;)

    Smart Girls sounds like a good read! I'll have to keep that in mind. I also want to read the Ruby Red, etc. series but I haven't...one day!

  13. Oh my gosh ... your neice's hair is adorable! Love it!

    The Amazon bargain bins are awesome. I try to search through them every few months to see if anything new and good has been added. It's great to get some really good reads for under $5. I wish I had a hardcover of Daughter of Smoke and Bone. The second book in that series was sent to me in hardcover and I'm sad they don't match!

    Hope you have another great week! :)
