Update Thursday #17

I got the idea for Update Thursday from the amazingly wonderful Jessica from Thoughts at One in the Morning. Every Thursday, I’ll be posting an update on my reading, writing, what’s going on at the blog, and anything else I think is worth mentioning.

It's my last Update Thursday of the year! I can't believe it's the last week of 2012 - crazy! I'll be doing a few recap posts this week - favourite books of 2012, etc - so be sure to watch for those and link me up to yours.

FINISHED READING:
A McCree Christmas by JC Isabella {GoodReads}
Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins {GoodReads}
The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith {GoodReads}

CURRENTLY READING:
Clarity by Kim Harrington {GoodReads
This is the last book I need to complete my GoodReads challenge of 100 books - woohoo!!!!

ON THE BLOG:
I took a few days off blogging this week to enjoy the holidays, so I just have 4 posts since last Thursday:

I reviewed Eliza's Shadow by Catherine Wittmack and gave it 3.5 stars

I reviewed A McCree Christmas and gave it 3 stars

I reviewed Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins and gave it 5 stars

I posted my 2013 reading goals for the "Make Up Your Own Challenge" Reading Challenge

On my personal blog, I talked about my birthday and shared some pictures

Elsewhere in the blogosphere: The Game Changer made a list of favourite books of 2012! :-D

WRITING:
Last week I talked a bit about the Christmas novella I'm writing for next year. I'm about 10,000 words in and having a lot of fun with it. After the craziness of NaNoWriMo, it's nice to be able to go at a slower pace (especially since I've been so busy I haven't had much time to write) and just take my time. I'm not exactly sure where the story's going, although I have a vague idea, and the characters keep taking me in directions I wasn't expecting, which I love. I'm hoping to get it done before January 1st (ha), and I'm really looking forward to starting revisions on book #3 and then getting it out to betas to see what other people think. If you're interested in being a beta reader for a contemporary YA book around February, please let me know!

Also, this is kind of writing related...I'm thinking of starting an e-newsletter in the new year. A writer friend of mine was talking the other day about starting one but she was worried no one would sign up. I'd never really thought about it because I have over 600 email subscribers, but that's for this blog, not my author blog. So I'm thinking of starting a newsletter for writing-related announcements - cover reveals, calls for beta readers and reviewers, sales and promotions, etc. Would anyone be interested in something like that? Ramblings of a Daydreamer is my blogging focus, and I'm so bad at keeping up with my author blog, but maybe if I had a newsletter - say once or twice a month? - I'd remember to blog on my author blog, haha. Let me know what you think!

ALL THE REST:
Last Friday, my family had a 'We Don't Believe the World is Ending Today, But if it is We Want to be Together' party. It was a lot of fun - we spent the day eating, playing games, and watching movies. I have a few videos from that day that I'll be uploading to YouTube soon and sharing on my personal blog.

I can't believe Christmas is over! We celebrate on the 24th, and we had my brother, sister-in-law, and nephews over. Hard to believe that next Christmas there will be a six-month-old crawling around. So exciting! I don't normally get many gifts since my birthday is so close to Christmas, but this year my mum was crazy generous - she said it was Christmas + a year's worth of congratulatory gifts for all my writing success. :-) I haven't taken pictures of all my loot yet, but I will, and I'll be doing a Book Haul video this weekend with the rest of my birthday books and my Christmas books.

Now that Christmas is over and I'm done cooking and cleaning and shopping and all that jazz, I'm going to take it easy for the rest of the week. Lots of reading, some writing, and probably a fair bit of DVD watching. I haven't watched Supernatural much lately because I've been on a Friends kick, but I'm missing the Winchester boys, so I'll likely get back to my marathons this week.

How has your week been so far? How was your Christmas/Hanukkah/insert-other-holiday-here, if you celebrate? What have you been reading? Watching? Blogging about?

  1. One book to go? WOOT! :D

    Ooh! Ooh! I'm interested in reading book 3. Oh wait, I was already on that list. What can I say, I'm enthusiastic. ;)

    An e-newsletter, eh? I'd read anything you would send out. :)
