Being back in the Sunshine State wasn’t something Briar Thompson was looking forward to, but it was Christmas and she couldn’t wait to see her grandparents. The second she landed in Florida with her boyfriend, Chase McCree, she was accepting an invitation to one of her parents’ fancy parties. Her Montana cowboy soon finds himself wearing a tux, and it seems that this Christmas isn’t exactly filled with holiday cheer.

After reading Chasing McCree just a month or so ago, I was curious to read A McCree Christmas. It was nice to see Briar and Chase again, but there was really nothing new - life on the ranch, Briar’s parents being jerks, Grandma and Grandpa being crazy. The story jumped around a lot, was kind of disjointed, and the ending was so abrupt I thought part of the story must have gotten cut off.

One thing I’ll say is that the author has done some nice set-up work for future books/novellas - or at least I assume she has. I’m guessing there’s going to be more about both Chase's and Briar's families, and maybe this Kate Kelley chick that Dustin is in love with? That has me curious, and I hope the author pursues that storyline in particular, maybe as a spin-off/companion?

Overall a quick, cute read for those who read and enjoyed Chasing McCree and want to see what Chase and Briar are up to a few months later, and how they spend their first Christmas together.

Have you read Chasing McCree or A McCree Christmas? What did you think? How do you feel about novellas based on familiar, beloved characters?
