Update Thursday #10

I got this idea from the amazingly wonderful Jessica from Thoughts at One in the Morning. Every Thursday, I’ll be posting an update on my reading, writing, what’s going on at the blog, and anything else I think should be mentioned.

Hey, lovelies! Welcome to the first Update Thursday of October. First of all, how is it October already?? Am I the only one having trouble coming to grips with that? This year is seriously flying by. Anyway, on to the updates...

READING

Since I'm trying to become a bit more involved as a booktuber, I made a vlog for my September wrap-up and October tbr. Check out what I read last month, and what I plan to read this month. *On a related side note, I'm finally learning to edit in Windows Movie Maker, so I managed to cut out three whole minutes of 'ums' and pauses and random ramblings.*

Three books? Seriously? Let me explain...I started Defiance awhile ago but didn't have much time to read because life got crazy...then I pre-ordered The Casual Vacancy and Stealing Parker, and because it's the companion to Catching Jordan, I had to read Catching Jordan first (I bought the ebook a month or so ago). So, The Casual Vacancy arrived and I started reading it but knew it would be slow going (it's massive), so I decided to start Catching Jordan so I could read Stealing Parker and get my review up fairly soon since it came out this week. Kinda weird and complicated, but there you have it.

I'm enjoying The Casual Vacancy so far, unlike a ton of people on GoodReads (and apparently newspaper reviewers)...what's really pissing me off is the idiots who are saying it sucks because it's not like Harry Potter. Um, DUH. Did you bother to read the synopsis? OF COURSE IT'S NOTHING LIKE HARRY POTTER. What would make you think it was? It's an adult book, it has nothing to do with Harry Potter or teens or anything that Rowling's done before. In conclusion, people are stupid, and I have 0 patience this week, which seems to be making people even stupider. Rant over, the end.

ON THE BLOG

I reviewed Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson and gave it 4 stars.

I talked about Victoria Schwab's Making History Project, and posted a vlog where I share a childhood memory.

I dedicated an entire book haul video to The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling.

I posted the link-ups for the 2012 Spooktacular Paranormal Reading Challenge. There's still time to sign up if you want to participate!

This week's spotlight song for Music Monday was Shine by Collective Soul.

I reviewed Glass Houses by Rachel Caine - the first in the Morganville Vampires series - and gave it three stars.

I talked about different giveaways going on around the blogosphere, and mentioned the giveaway hop my friend Jessica from Thoughts at One in the Morning is hosting later this month. Be sure to sign up check it out and sign up!

Also, did you notice I have a new blog design? I've been wanting to switch it up for awhile now, and since I couldn't come up with anything for a permanent design I decided to go with a Halloween theme for October...I might do a winter theme while I work on something more permanent. What do you think?

LIFE AND STUFF
Unfortunately there's nothing to report on the writing front. I haven't written in awhile and it's driving me nuts. I MISS WRITING! My head's just too full right now. I'm hoping to start the next round of revisions on The Game Changer, even though I'm still waiting to hear from three of my beta readers (thank you for finishing so quickly J, I love you for it, and it reduced my sky-rocketing stress levels slightly, which is appreciated). If I don't get going on revisions soon, I'm either going to have no ARCs for reviewers, or I'll have to push back the publication date. *sigh*

If you read last week's update, you'll know that I'm watching my 2-year-old nephew most days. This week we've had him every day so far, and overnight Monday (he fell asleep early and since my sister-in-law was working until 9 and had to be back to work less than twelve hours later, I suggested he just spend the night). He's the sweetest thing ever, and we've been having a lot of fun, but it's a huge responsibility and I'm not getting much of anything else done.

As for TV...I haven't watched much Angel (*sniff*), but I watched the season premiers of CSI: NY and Blue Bloods last Friday, which made me really happy, and of course Castle on Monday. I also watched Dancing With the Stars on Monday and Tuesday (Logan watched a bit with me Monday night, but that's when he fell asleep). Anyone else watching it?

Tomorrow (and by tomorrow I mean Thursday because I'm actually writing this Wednesday night) we have Logan from 2:30 - 8ish (my s-i-l works till 11, but I'm going to get my bro to pick Logan up early), and then I have Friday off, but have him again Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's my usual library and errand day, so tomorrow morning I'm going to have to go grocery shopping, and then go to the library Friday morning (I have to take the bus so there's only so much I can do at once). GAH.

Anyway, enough rambling. Time for me to go relax, read, and watch some TV. What have you guys been up to this week? What are you reading, writing, watching, doing, blogging about? I want to know!

  1. Lol, your reading has become like mine... I start one book, then another, then another... and I'll finish one of them at random, and sometimes one will stay as a book I'm reading for weeks, then I'll finish it. It all depends on my mood and how excited I am to read a book. You're going to love Catching Jordan. I can't wait to see what you think of it, AND of Stealing Parker (I so want to check that one out soon).

Maybe you can do some revisions Friday night? I don't know. Things will work out for you soon! *hugs*

<3 Castle -- oh yes. I don't watch those other shows, but hey, I can talk of my love of Castle. ;)

  2. Sounds like life has been crazy! I'm reading three books at the moment too...well, I'm READING one book and just eyeing the others angrily. ;) I hope you find time to get back to writing. :)
