Update Thursday #3

I got this idea from the amazingly wonderful Jessica from Thoughts at One in the Morning. Every Thursday, I’ll be posting an update on my reading, writing, what’s going on at the blog, and anything else I think should be mentioned.

Writing:
Well, I have some really exciting news. If you follow me on Twitter or my Facebook fan page, you might already know this, but I finished writing book #2 over the weekend! It only took me five months, but it felt like much longer. The final word count is around 104,000 words, and I'm hoping to trim that a bit in revisions. I'm still in shock that it ended up being that long - I never ever expected I'd be able to write a book that long.

I'm hoping to start revisions next week. I wanted to give it a bit of time before starting, even though it's been five months since I read the beginning. Since things were going slower than I'd hoped, I didn't want to contact beta readers without a general timeline, but now I can finally do that. I have a few writer/reader/blogger friends in mind, and I'm really hoping they'll agree to do it, plus my mum and my cousin who both beta'd Blue Sky Days, and I'm hoping my editor for BSD will also edit book #2.

Now I just need to figure out cover design. I'm pretty much drawing a blank and it's starting to stress me out. I can't get a grip on a concept, so it makes it hard to even search for pictures when I don't know what I'm searching for. I really wish I could afford to have someone else do it and save myself the time and effort. Hopefully I'll have more news on that front soon!

How has your week been? What's new?

  1. Hi Marie,

  2. Hi Marie!

Congrats on finishing the first draft of your next book. :) 104,000 is pretty awesome.

What's it about? If you need someone else to help hunt for image ideas on Dreamtime, etc. let me know and I'd be happy to keep an eye out. Looking for stuff on there is what I do when I'm stuck. :)

Anyway, time for me to get back to editing the last 1/3 of Moon Dance. So close yet so far away! I hope everything else is going well for you.

    Bye!

  4. YAY again! Covers are hard. I keep thinking one thing in my head, but nothing seems to work when I look through pictures. Why I'm looking through pictures when I haven't finished the book yet, I don't know. It's just fun to do. :P
