May was a really busy, kinda weird month. I feel like I didn't get a whole hell of a lot accomplished, and that bothers me. Here's a recap:
Books read:
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
The Single Girl’s To-Do List by Lindsey Kelk
*Reviews to come for both these books
I also read about 1/4 of The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa before I gave up/my NetGalley license expired. Clearly my reading sucked in May. I was in a serious reading rut. I’m hoping to do better in June - well, I don’t really have a choice since I have a ton of NetGalley books, plus books to read for the Canada Spotlight next month!
On the blog:
Reviews:
The Summer My Life Began by Shannon Greenland
Lucky Stiff by Deborah Coonts
Welcome, Caller, This is Chloe by Shelley Coriell
Princesses of Iowa by M. Molly Backes
The Padre Predator by David Harry
Gossip by Beth Gutcheon

WRITING:
At the beginning of May, I said I would finish my current WIP - no if, ands, buts, or excuses. Well, there were lots of ifs, ands, and buts, and I still haven’t finished writing the damn thing. ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I am extremely frustrated. I’ve got so much going on I feel like I’m slowly losing my mind. I managed to write 11,010 words in May, which isn’t horrible, but it’s not great either since I used to be able to write that much in a week.
I’m just going to take things as they come from now on. I really hope I can finish writing book #2 in June, but I’m not going to say ‘I will, no matter what’ because I’m tired of setting myself up for disappointment. There’s just too much going on that’s beyond my control, and I can’t concentrate. I’d rather take my time than rush it and end up with a crappy book.
One writing goal I will set is that I want to get my book of short erotic stories published this month. A couple years ago, I started writing erotica and had a few short stories published in different online magazines. Awhile ago I decided to compile some of my stories, polish them, and compile them into a book of 5-6 stories. I have the ones I want and I’ve had one beta reader go through them, so now I need my second beta reader to check them out, then I’ll go through again and publish them on Smashwords and Amazon. That shouldn’t be too time-consuming, because it’s just a matter of editing, formatting, and finishing the cover design. *crosses fingers*
Coming up in June
I have several reviews to post for books that I read in April and May. I'm also going to be posting the sign-ups for the Canadian Reading Challenge about mid-month.
Also, on a slightly unrelated note, because my reading and writing have been taking a bit of a back burner, I’ve been looking for other creative outlets. I love photography, and I’ve been wanting to do a photo challenge for a long time, so I joined Fat Mum Slim’s monthly Photo a Day challenge for June. I don’t have Instagram, so I’m doing the filters myself and I’ll be posting all my pictures on Twitter and here if you want to check them out and maybe consider joining the challenge (she does a different one every month).
How are you doing with your goals?
A book of short stories by Marie Landry? YES PLEASE. I can't wait to see it. I think it's a great idea! Once I get my first book published, I've been considering compiling a bunch of my poems into an anthology and e-publishing it. Poetry books don't sell too well, but I want to share my other work anyways.
ReplyDeleteDropping by from Are You Writing Now, and would like to encourage you to keep plugging away at the book, I wish you all the best getting it finished by the end of June! Good luck also with the short erotic stories compilation, too.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your goals and I'm excited abut the shorts.
