Favorite books of 2012...so far

Welcome to day two of Armchair BEA! Today's topic is favorite reads of 2012.

I’ve read 33 books so far this year, and I’ve been lucky to have enjoyed the majority of them. Here are my favorites so far - the links lead to my reviews.

Firelight by Sophie Jordan (dragons!)
The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab (fairytale-like, beautiful prose)
Ten Things We Did (And Probably Shouldn’t Have) by Sarah Mlynowski (hilarious and real)
A Scottish Ferry Tale by Nancy Volkers (romantic and relateable)
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor (angels, demons, fantasy worlds, EPIC)
Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood (witches, secrets, romance)
Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard (made me want to hop on a plane and just GO)
The Princesses of Iowa by M. Molly Backes (poignant, funny, memorable)
Welcome, Caller, This is Chloe by Shelley Coriell (funny and surprisingly moving)

Some random stats:
*These nine books are pretty evenly divided between paranormal and contemporary.
*Only one of the books (A Scottish Ferry Tale) is adult, the rest are YA.
*Five of these are stand-alones, which is something I'm currently really enjoying.
*Even though I love series, I have trouble with them for 2 reasons: 1) when I really enjoy a new series, I hate waiting for the next book(s) to be released, and 2) I suck at carrying on with series. In the last two years I’ve started so many series, then I move onto another book, which leads to 20 more and it takes me ages to get back to the series, and by then I tend to have forgotten a lot because I’ve read so many other books in between.

What are some of your favorite books of 2012 so far? Have you read any of the books on my list?

  1. Hi Marie!

We have Born Wicked in common (I actually just posted my very long, fangirling review and analysis of the book, haha), as it is on my list! I really want to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Wanderlove so badly! Oh, and I'd like to read Ten Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn't Have) and Near Witch! Good to know they all come highly recommended :)

My favourites reads of 2012 (so far).

  4. Hi, hope you're having a happy Tuesday. :)

You picked one of my favorite books too, THE NEAR WITCH is so good and it really does have a poetic prose/ring to it while you read.

  5. I've only read Born Wicked out of your list and wasn't personally a big fan of it. I haven't read too many other 2012 releases either, but am looking forward to a few coming out!

  10. Wow 33 books that is crazy but I did see all of your pledge buttons yesterday so I know you have much reading to do. I have listened to DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE and just saw the sequel is coming on another Armchair BEA stop.

You have some others on your list that have my interest. Will add them to the investigate list.

  11. PSSSH. *makes flail-y noises* Marie, I don't even know where to start. THE NEAR WITCH love ALWAYS makes me super duper TOTALLY happy!

I REALLY want to read my copy of Born Wicked. My hope is this summer to read a lot of books off of my TBR.

AND YAY. CHLOE LOVE! I adored that book so much, I can't even lie. :)

    Great post, chica!
