Armchair BEA Day 5: Book blogging tips

Welcome to the fifth and final day of Armchair BEA! I hope you've all had as much fun with this as I have, and I hope all the lucky people who got to be in NYC this week had a blast. Thank you so much to everyone who has visited and taken the time to comment. I've had a lot of fun meeting new people and visiting new blogs.

Today's topic is blogging tips. In the interest of keeping this short, I’m going to share my top three book blogging tips. These are things I think all bloggers should know/keep in mind. They’re also things I would have wanted to know when I was starting out.

*Always remain true to yourself and your vision for your blog. Don’t change it because other people are doing something else, or because you think doing something will make you more popular. This is not a popularity contest. Followers are great, receiving free books is great, but it should not be your main motivation to blog. Be genuine, honest, and passionate - people will recognize that and return to your blog for more.

*Post on a regular basis. You should always aim for quality over quantity, but if your posting is sporadic, I would think you’d be less likely to have return visitors because they never know if they’re going to come across a new post, or discover you haven’t posted in a week. People have lives and get busy, and most bloggers take breaks once in awhile, but try to post regularly if you can. It also helps your search engine rankings.

*Come up with something original. So many bloggers do nothing but memes - and that’s fine, but I know a lot of bloggers who get tired of reading cookie cutter posts every time they visit a blog. Try to come up with at least one original feature - a discussion post, a rant or rave post, a special spotlight post - anything original. And, of course, you can't go wrong with posting reviews.

What are some of your blogging tips? What did you think of Armchair BEA this year?

  1. I think your advice is great. Be true to yourself and be original. Both very important. Thanks!

  2. I learned that if you have to spend hours to write up and put together one post, sometimes it's not worth it. A lot of blog readers will skim over long posts. If you do need to make your post long, break it up with subheadings and pictures to keep your follower's attention. I know from personal blog reading experience that it will keep me interested when it's either short or is broken down in manageable segments.
