2012 A to Z Blogging Challenge: Vampires, Witches, and Faeries, oh my!

I love supernatural books. I love vampires, faeries, witches, ghosts, werewolves, you name it. Despite that, when I stop and think about it, I haven't actually read that many paranormal books. I have a ton on on my to-be-read list (and on my bookshelves), but for some reason they always seem to get pushed to the bottom in favour of romance or contemporary fiction. Today I thought I'd share a few of my favourite paranormal books that feature vampires, witches, faeries, and other miscellaneous creatures. Most of these books are YA, but there are a few adult books, too.

A few favourite vampire books:
Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill
Hearts at Stake by Alyxandra Harvey
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Being Human by (friend, and fellow A to Z'er) Patricia Lynne

A few favourite faerie books:
The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
Wondrous Strange by Leslie Livingston
Tithe by Holly Black
Wings by Aprilynne Pike

A few favourite witch books:
The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab
Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake (witches and ghosts)

A few favourite 'miscellaneous creature' books:
Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce (werewolves)
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor (angels, demons, chimera)
Sweet Venom by Tera Lynn Childs (descendants of Medusa, creatures from another realm)
Firelight by Sophie Jordan (dragons)
Paranormalcy and Supernaturally by Kiersten White (every supernatural creature imaginable)

Do you like supernatural books? What are some of your favourites?

  1. I'm like you! I have some paranormal books, but they usually get shunted aside in favour of romance!

  2. Very interesting list there. :) You have a lot of things listed I haven't read yet, and that's my genre for writing. *laughs* Some, like The Near Witch and Firelight, I've meant to read. And some I've never (Being Human) or only vaguely (Wings) heard of. Might need to take that list and look into them. :)

  3. I'm the exact opposite. I pick paranormal over contemporary. Especially if there are vampires.

  6. Shout out to The Near Witch and The Vampire Academy series. <3 I loved them both so much. I really want to do a big VA re-read one day.

  7. I just read Paranormalcy and Supernaturally and loved them both. That's my type of paranormal book - one that doesn't take itself too seriously, but has all of the different paranormals, and then some! I would highly recommend them! Prepare to laugh, though! :D
